Alex Steffen: The shareable future of cities
Alex Steffen, a long time climate change campaigner, journalist and founder of online magazine www.worldchanging.com recently gave an inspiring talk at www.ted.com which I wanted to share with you here.
Steffen explains that in the developed world, our response to climate change has focused largely on a transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy which he says is a recipe for disaster. Not because renewable energy is a bad idea, but because the trajectory of emissions growth posed by a rapidly urbanising world is likely to outstrip any capacity...

The Grattan institute recently conducted a survey of more than 700 people in Melbourne and Sydney to determine what attributes they looked for in housing - and what was available.
The results show that more Australian's are willing to make trade-offs when it comes to the size and type of housing they live in, if other amenities can be gained.

Friends of the Earth is hosting the annual Radioactive Exposure Tour from May 19−29, 2011. Since the 1980s, these tours have exposed thousands of people first-hand to the realities of 'radioactive racism' and to the environmental impacts of the nuclear industry.
