Because UEA is an environmental advocate we have a policy of writing submissions to Federal and State agencies and others on matters of current concern. In 2010 we sent submissions to the following bodies:
| Fed Government members | Climate change concerns | |
| Department of Planning & Urban development | 30 year Plan for Greater Adelaide | |
| Adelaide City Council | Victoria Square: response to latest plan for redevelopment | |
| Minister Caica DENR | Range of ideas following meeting | |
| Minda Homes Inc | Destruction of sand dunes | |
| Department of Planning & Urban development | Mt Barker Development: response to Development Plan Amendment review |
This work is ongoing.
Several years ago UEA initiated Adelaide’s first urban car-share scheme, by encouraging GoGet Carshare to set up in Adelaide. There are currently (March 2011) six cars in the CBD plus another one in a new housing development just north of the city. Thanks to Adelaide City Council for providing parking spaces in the City. UEA promotes GoGet as this reduces the number of cars on the road. See the GoGet website for membership details.
These have been an important feature of UEA’s work since the Christie Walk project began and continue to grow in popularity. UEA has recently (March 2011) obtained a grant to subsidise disadvantaged schools to participate in tours.
