Buses

Discussion

Buses are a cost effective way of giving people access to dispersed locations without using a car. Buses can use the established road system, and deliver people into the heart of urban centres. Buses are especially suitable for the low density, sprawling cities found in Australia because they do not need the high passenger volumes needed to cover the costs of more expensive infrastructure such as rail.

With dedicated road lanes, bus-priorty at intersections, and rapid boarding, buses can approach the speed of many rail based systems. Using grade-separated, bus-only corridors with limited stops, buses can get people across urban areas faster than cars.
