UEA and GoGet Car Share have launched a car share service in Adelaide.
Ecocity projects
Urban Ecology Australia advocates, supports and initiates ecocity projects which include:
- Non-toxic, healthy materials and construction.
- Renewable energy use.
- Capture of rainwater and onsite treatement of effluent.
- Habitat for indigenous species.
- City/rural links to restore degraded land.
- Community participation.
Christie Walk
A groundbreaking ecological community housing development in the heart of Adelaide, which includes townhouses, strawbale cottages and apartments.
Research projects
Urban Ecology Australia has proposed or is undertaking a number of research projects on topics such as bioregions, building materials, ecocommunities, urban development, and retrofitting suburbia.

Sustainable cities publication
UEA is currently developing a publication that addresses the question: What is a sustainable city, and how do we get there?
Moving Towards Urban Sustainability
UEA's Margaret Rohde and Joan Carlin worked with the Global Education Centre to produce Moving Towards Urban Sustainability - A Resource for Middle School and Secondary Teachers. Published in 2007 and available at the Centre for Urban Ecology, it is an 80 page resource with material about the Christie Walk Eco-Project.
Shadow Plans
UEA has developed a set of Shadow Plans of the Tandanya Bioregion, which shows how Adelaide could be transformed over the next 150 years into a series of compact urban centres set within a network of green corridors.
Green Maps
The first Green Map in the southern hemisphere was launched in Rundle Mall, Adelaide as part of World Environment Day celebrations on 5 June 1998.
