- Non-toxic, healthy materials and construction.
- Renewable energy use.
- Capture of rainwater and onsite treatement of effluent.
- Habitat for indigenous species.
- City/rural links to restore degraded land.
- Community participation.

Sustainable Cities Publication
UEA is currently developing a publication that addresses the question: What is a sustainable city, and how do we get there?
Shadow Plans
UEA has developed a set of Shadow Plans of the Tandanya Bioregion, which shows how Adelaide could be transformed over the next 150 years into a series of compact urban centres set within a network of green corridors.
Green Maps
The first Green Map in the southern hemisphere was launched in Rundle Mall, Adelaide as part of World Environment Day celebrations on 5 June 1998.
