Peace Prize awarded to Al Gore and the IPCC for efforts to raise awareness about climate change and how to respond to it.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has awarded the Nobel peace Prize 2007 to the Intergovernmental Planel on Climate Change and Al Gore "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change".
Over the past two decades, the IPCC has issued a series of scientific reports, drawing together material from thousands of scientists, on the issue of global warming.
Since 2001 Gore has lectured extensively on the threat of global warming, and in 2006 released a documentary film - “An Inconvenient Truth ” - which took his arguments to a wider audience.
