Howard Visits Christie Walk

Christie Walk used as backdrop for Solar City announcement.
Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, visited Christie Walk today, to announce the first Solar Cities trial. He was shown around by Christie Walk architect (and UEA founding-member) Paul Downton.
The announced Adelaide Solar City project will be run by a consortium whose members include Origin Energy, BP Solar, ANZ Bank, Big Switch, Mawson Lakes Development companies Delfin and Land Lease, and several metropolitan councils.
John Howard, who will admit that he is no great expert on sustainability issues, should be commended for responding to the growing need for natural resource conserving urban development, and for showing an interest in the energy efficiency features of Christie Walk, such as the roof garden, which provides insulation for the apartments below.
Christie Walk is an obvious context for a solar cities announcement. Let's hope that renewed government leadership on sustainable cities results in more backdrops to choose from next time.
