Christie Walk Wins APFED Award

Christie Walk wins Silver Prize in the Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED Awards for 2006.
It was presented to Christie Walk architect Paul Downton today.
The Awards are run by the Asia-Pacific Forum for Environment and Development. Candidate projects are judged by their contribution to the environment; for the development of innovative solutions to problems in sustainable development; for their involvement of a range of participants across government, non-government and private sectors; for being practical and easy to understand (hence to replicate).
Other winners in this year's APFED Awards are:
- Kokonut Pacific Ltd in the Solomons Islands for rehabilitation of the rural economy through production of export-quality organic coconut oil from existing resources.
- A project in Korea to improve water quality in the Geumbo River.
- A project in the Philippines to improve instutional capacity to ensure safe water supplies against increased demand, pollution of water catchments, and over-extraction of groundwater.
- A non-government environmental organisation in China that provides legal assistance to help pollution victims bring their case to the court.
