Christie Walk Community Food Garden
In the Christie Walk Community Food Garden, residents and visitors can grow their own food and so reduce their food miles. Getting together to work on the garden is a good excuse for a community gathering
The food grown varies depending on the season. The garden thus allows contact between residents and the cycles of nature.
The compost bins in the food garden allow residents to recycle their food waste, and to build up the garden's soil fertility.
Water is supplied from underground tanks which collect rainwater from the roofs onsite. The water is labelled non-potable because rainwater in the inner city is not considered safe to drink.
