Walk Through Aviary

Photo: Cleland Wildlife Park - Bush Birds Aviary.

A boardwalk allows people to walk through the aviary, and see birdlife close-up. Special gates allow the people to come and go but keep the birds in. The aviary is large enough to give the birds room to fly around, but small enough that it could fit easily into many urban settings. Prolific vegetation allows the birds to retire behind cover. A small creek runs beneath the boardwalk.

Outdoor Cafe in Bushland Setting

Sometimes people like to get in touch with nature, but without leaving their comfort zone. This outdoor cafe at the Cleland Wildlife Park in the Adelaide Hills is wrapped in native vegetation which attracts local birds. Unfortunately few cafes follow this example, with many wrapped in roadways busy with motorised traffic rather than greenspace.

Wetland Pathway

There may be many opportunities for small wetlands to be inserted into the urban fabric between buildings, with pathways connecting one urban precinct with another.
